The engine compartment is filled with various wiring harnesses, sensors and actuators, which carry electricity and signals.
Preventing short circuits: The engine compartment has a compact space and numerous metal components (such as the engine body, brackets, and screws). Once exposed or normally wrapped wires come into contact with metal due to vibration and the insulation layer is damaged, it will cause a short circuit. In mild cases, the function will fail; in severe cases, it may even lead to a fire. Heat shrink tubing provides a strong and uniform insulating layer, greatly reducing the risk of short circuits.
Enhance mechanical strength: After shrinking, the heat shrink tube can be fastened to the wire like a "bandage", increasing its resistance to wear, vibration and minor impacts.
Protective joints: The connection points between wires (such as welding points and crimping points) are the most vulnerable parts of the entire circuit. Heat shrink tubing can perfectly contract and wrap around these joints, providing mechanical protection and a permanent insulating seal to prevent them from loosening or oxidizing due to pulling or vibration.
Uniform adhesion: Whether it is a regular wiring harness or an irregular joint, the heat shrink tube can be closely and evenly adhered to the surface of the object after heating, without any gaps, forming a "customized" protective layer.
Moisture-proof, dust-proof and anti-corrosion: The tight wrapping can effectively prevent water vapor, oil stains, dust and chemical solvents (such as brake fluid and coolant) from entering the interior of the wires, preventing line corrosion and aging. Some adhesive heat shrink tubes have the adhesive on their inner walls melt after heating, providing a nearly waterproof sealing effect.
